Welcome to the Community & Economic Development Department
The community & economic development department encompasses planning and downtown development activities throughout Lathrup Village. This includes activities such as working with prospective businesses wishing to locate in the city, assisting existing business, directing the (re)development process, administering the city’s Zoning Ordinance, serving as staff to the Planning Commission, Downtown Development Authority, and Historic District Commission. Comprehensive Plan: An update to the 2014 Master Plan, this document is comprised of the city-wide master plan, downtown plan, and parks & recreation plan. Visit the 2019 Comprehensive Plan page for more information.

2020 Census: Every 10 years the Census Bureau comes out to count, and CED will be working diligently to ensure all of our Lathrup Village residents get counted. Visit the 2020 Census page for more information.

Redevelopment Ready Communities (RRC): This certification is a signal to the development community that Lathrup Village is a welcoming place to do business with a clear, predictable, and reasonable process. The city is proud of our certification and strives to ensure projects aren’t unnecessarily difficult.

Southfield Road Reconstruction: Discussions about reconstructing Southfield Road to be a more pedestrian-friendly, accessible, and overall more inviting corridor have been ongoing for more than a decade. Visit the Southfield Road Project page for more information.
