The mosquito that carries West Nile virus emerges in mid-April. You can prevent the spread of West Nile by draining water from potential breeding sites such as pet bowls, pool covers, clogged gutters, flower pots, buckets, toys, and other areas where water collects.
If you notice standing water, please notify Code Enforcement at (248) 557.2600, ext 223. DPS will work to eliminate standing water in ditches and will apply larvicide in storm sewers to kill the larvae with minimal environmental impact.
