The primary function of the Assessor's Office is to
maintain up-to-date records on all properties within its jurisdiction.
Information including current ownership, legal description,
location of easements, property dimensions, improvements,
and land use.
The assessor is mandated by state law to establish
uniform and equitable assessments to insure that property
owners will contribute only their fair share of the taxes
needed to provide the services we enjoy.
As properties are
sold, market studies are conducted to determine the ratios
at which comparable properties are being sold in various neighborhoods
throughout the community.
Assessment rolls completed in March of each year are subject
to scrutiny at the annual meeting of the Board of Review.
This three-member board, consisting of tax paying Lathrup
Village residents appointed by the City Council, will hear
the protests of anyone wishing to contest their property assessment.
Petitioners should be prepared to present evidence that their
assessment exceeds 50% of the current market value.
