Building Department

Permit applications submitted via BS&AOnline are preferred. Contractors that have not previously registered to perform work in Lathrup Village may submit a Contractor Registration Form, copies of any and all License(s), and a current Certificate of Liability Insurance (CLI) to building@lathrupvillage.org. A BS&AOnline PIN will be issued to the applicant. Permit applications must be complete with detail of work to be performed. Contact building@lathrupvillage.org with any further questions.

The building department is committed to maintaining the Lathrup Village adopted plans, codes, ordinances, and standards that preserve the quality of life and safety of Lathrup Village residents.  The Building & Ordinance Department is on the main level of LV City Hall. The staff of the Building & Ordinance Departments works courteously to make sure that the goals of the village are maintained for an appealing and safe walkable residential neighborhood and a sustainable commercial area. The Building Department issues permits and inspects all new construction, alterations, additions to existing structures, and commercial building changes in occupancy. The Building Department also inspects all businesses located within the City.

Building Codes
Building codes are adopted as laws or ordinances by governmental bodies such as states, counties, townships, and cities. The Building Code is a collection of requirements that pertain to specific subjects that regulate specific practices (such as designing, constructing, or remodeling buildings). 

Whether the code pertains to construction, property maintenance, fire prevention, electrical, or plumbing - all codes have the same purpose: To protect public health, safety, and welfare by requiring safe construction.

The State of Michigan Construction Code consists of the international codes with state amendments. The code includes referenced standards which are an extension of the code to an additional publication to the extent referenced.
