How the Community Can Help

Community policing is a policing strategy and philosophy based on the notion that community interaction and support can help control crime, with community members helping to identify suspects and bring problems to the attention of police.

A collaboration between the police and the community that identifies and solves community problems. Community policing has far-reaching implications. 

Reserve Officers

The City of Lathrup Village utilizes Reserve Officers who volunteer their time monthly to the community.  Although the Michigan Commission for Law Enforcement Standards (MCOLES) has not set any standards for Reserve Officers,  the standards are set by each Chief of Police. 

Our Reserves have all attended and graduated from a Reserve Academy.  They participate in annual in-service training with the department.  They have all been through firearms training, CPR, Hazmat, and Blood Born Pathogens.  They will be participating in our upcoming training for Tasers, Defensive Tactics, and Firearms Qualification. 

Our Reserve Officers are used to augment our police officers during special events, and/or patrol duties.  Normally, Reserve Officers work alongside a Police Officer but there are limited occasions where two Reserve Officers could be placed together to assist in extra patrol duties.  Every Reserve Officer has an active concealed pistol license.
