At approximately 5:00 PM, Lathrup Village Police Officers were dispatched to the intersection of Southfield Road and Sunset Boulevard for an injury traffic crash involving a motorcycle and another vehicle.
The preliminary investigation indicates that the driver of the motorcycle was driving erratically while travelling northbound on Southfield Rd. According to several witnesses, the driver of the motorcycle entered the intersection while the traffic light was red. The motorcycle collided with another vehicle in the intersection. The driver of the motorcycle was ejected and sustained severe injuries. Officers attempted CPR and other life-saving measures. The driver of the motorcycle was pronounced deceased at the hospital. Proper notifications were made to the family. The occupants of the second vehicle were treated for injuries on scene and released.
Accident investigators from the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office were called to the scene to assist with the investigation.
