Lathrup Village DDA Raises Over $1,400 for Pediatric Cancer Research Through “Shave the Intern” Event
Lathrup Village, MI — The Lathrup Village Downtown Development Authority (DDA) is proud to announce the success of its recent community fundraiser, Shave the Intern, which raised over $1,400 for the St. Baldrick’s Foundation in support of pediatric cancer research.
The event, held as part of the DDA’s ongoing mission to foster civic engagement and community well-being, invited residents and supporters to contribute toward a goal: reaching $1,400+ in donations. This resulted in the DDA Intern, Tom Kennedy, having their head shaved in a public celebration of solidarity and awareness. The community rallied together, making the event both memorable and impactful.
"We’re incredibly grateful for the generosity of our community," said Tom Kennedy, Lathrup Village DDA Intern. "This fundraiser was about more than just a fun challenge—it was about coming together for a cause that affects thousands of children and families. We’re proud to support the St. Baldrick’s Foundation and the life-saving research they fund."
The event drew attention across the city, generating enthusiasm from residents, local businesses, and city leaders, many of whom joined the crowd to witness the ceremonial head shave and celebrate the successful campaign.
All proceeds from Shave the Intern have been donated directly to the St. Baldrick’s Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to funding research to find cures for childhood cancers.
A special thanks to Valerie Bryant from Always Hair 4 U! for providing cosmetology oversight, Pappa’s Pizza for providing event lunch and refreshments, and Donna Wallace of Wallace Financial for the largest donation resulting in the honor of shaving the intern.
