Lathrup Village Selected for Electric Vehicle Charging Station through Statewide Infrastructure Program
Lathrup Village, MI — The City of Lathrup Village is proud to announce that it has been selected as a key site for the expansion of Michigan’s electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure. As part of the Michigan Department of Transportation’s (MDOT) second round of the NEVI Design-Build-Operate-Maintain (DBOM) program, upgraded EV charging stations will be installed at 26727 Southfield Road, at the BP Gas and Liquor location.
This site was identified as Gap #33 along the I-696 Alternative Fuel Corridor, a priority route for EV infrastructure development. The selection results from collaboration between the State of Michigan and the Southeast Michigan Council of Governments (SEMCOG), which has worked to identify charging infrastructure gaps throughout the region.
The project will be delivered by Red E Charge, a leading company in EV charging solutions, and will help improve access to clean transportation for Lathrup Village residents, commuters, and travelers along the I-696 corridor.
“This is an exciting step forward in making Lathrup Village a more connected, sustainable community,” said Mayor Kelly Garrett. “We’re proud to be part of the effort to expand EV access and help Michigan meet its clean energy goals.”
The upgraded charging site will support the state’s broader efforts under the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) program, which is federally funded to accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles and build a reliable, accessible charging network across Michigan.
