City of Lathrup Village Promotes Lt. Mike Zang to Police Chief
LATHRUP VILLAGE, MI – During the October 20th, 2025, City Council Regular Meeting, the Lathrup Village City Council confirmed City Administrator Greene’s recommendation to promote Lieutenant Mike Zang to Chief of Police, effective January 1, 2026. Chief Zang will succeed Police Chief Scott McKee, who will be retiring at the end of the calendar year after years of distinguished service to the community.
Chief Zang brings nearly two decades of law enforcement experience and a deep commitment to public safety and community engagement. Since joining the Lathrup Village Police Department, he has served in numerous leadership capacities, including overseeing patrol operations, coordinating training programs, and advancing department initiatives focused on transparency, accountability, and community trust.
“Lt. Zang has demonstrated exceptional leadership, integrity, and dedication throughout his career,” said City Administrator Mike Greene. “His knowledge of the department, strong relationships within the community, and commitment to modern policing practices make him the ideal choice to lead the Lathrup Village Police Department into the future.”
In his new role, Chief Zang will continue to focus on fostering positive police-community relations, supporting officer development, and enhancing public safety through innovation and collaboration.
