Municipal Park Playground Concept

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
LATHRUP VILLAGE, MI – December 12, 2025
– The Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund (MNRTF) Board has recommended that the Michigan Legislature approve more than $45 million in recreation development and land acquisition projects across the state, including a $400,000 award for the City of Lathrup Village to support outdoor recreation improvements in the community.

The board’s annual recommendations, part of the competitive MNRTF grant process, aim to expand public access to parks, trails, and other outdoor recreation facilities. Projects recommended for funding will be considered by the Michigan Legislature as part of the 2026 appropriations process.

“We are excited by the Trust Fund Board’s recommendation and grateful for the Legislature’s consideration,” said Mike Greene, Lathrup Village City Administrator. “This significant potential investment will help enhance community recreation assets for residents and visitors alike.”

The recommended $400,000 award for Lathrup Village, if approved by the Legislature and signed by the Governor, will be used to replace the aging playground at Lathrup Village Municipal Park with a new ~4,000 sq. ft., universally accessible play area.

The Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund is supported by interest and earnings from state-owned natural resources and has invested more than $1.3 billion in local and state outdoor recreation projects since its creation in 1976.
