The City of Lathrup Village proudly recognizes June 19, 2026, as Juneteenth Awareness Day. Juneteenth commemorates the day in 1865 when enslaved African Americans in Texas were finally informed of their freedom, marking a pivotal moment in our nation's history.
This day serves as an opportunity to reflect on the resilience and contributions of African Americans, learn more about the history and legacy of Juneteenth, and reaffirm our commitment to equality, understanding, and inclusion.
We encourage all residents to honor this important observance through education, reflection, and community dialogue as we continue working toward a more just and united future.
