LATHRUP VILLAGE, Mich. — The City of Lathrup Village is pleased to announce the appointment of Janet Bloom as its new Community & Economic Development/Downtown Development Authority (DDA) Director. Bloom will lead the City's economic development initiatives, oversee Downtown Development Authority operations, and work closely with residents, businesses, property owners, and community partners to strengthen Lathrup Village's vibrant business district and support strategic community growth.

Bloom brings more than 25 years of experience in downtown development, economic development, marketing, community engagement, and event management. Throughout her career, she has successfully led projects that have revitalized downtown districts, strengthened partnerships with local businesses, secured sponsorships and grant funding, and enhanced community programming throughout Michigan.

Most recently, Bloom served as Assistant Director of the Lake Orion Downtown Development Authority, where she managed community events, business engagement, marketing initiatives, volunteer programs, and infrastructure projects. She also held leadership roles with the East and West Dearborn DDAs, the Novi Chamber of Commerce, the Farmington DDA, the Northville Chamber of Commerce, and numerous community organizations.

"Janet's extensive background in downtown development, marketing, community engagement, and economic development makes her an outstanding addition to our leadership team," said City Administrator Mike Greene. "She has a proven ability to build strong relationships, develop creative solutions, and bring communities together around a shared vision. We are excited to welcome her to Lathrup Village and look forward to the energy and experience she will bring to our residents, businesses, and downtown."

Bloom holds bachelor's degrees in marketing and advertising from Michigan State University. She is also an active participant in the Michigan Downtown Association's professional development program for downtown executives and has been a featured speaker at the National Main Street Conference.

"I am honored to join the City of Lathrup Village and look forward to working alongside City leadership, the DDA Board, local businesses, residents, and community partners," said Bloom. "Lathrup Village has a strong sense of community, a unique character, and tremendous potential. I'm excited to help build on that momentum by supporting economic development, fostering partnerships, and creating opportunities that enhance the City's business district and quality of life."

As Community & Economic Development/DDA Director, Bloom will oversee business retention and attraction efforts, redevelopment initiatives, grant opportunities, downtown programming, marketing, special events, and implementation of projects that support the City's long-term economic development goals.

Bloom is expected to begin her new role in July.
